A Story of Epic Proportions

This is hands-down my favorite book of all-time. It is an incredible story of epic proportions. Set in Africa, it took Gloria over 20 years to research and write this amazing tale of love, war, passion, and justice. It is a fantastically gripping and beautiful story. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Something For Everyone

I read this book in 1987 and to this day have not forgotten about it. This book has a little something for everyone: war, history, romance. I've hoped for years it would be made into a movie so that more people could enjoy it. My book is worn out so I need to get a new one!

Makes a Man Cry...

The most beautifully written and eloquently evolving story that I've ever read. It broke my heart when I first read this novel 14 years ago (I read it in 1987) and I've read it again in 1998 and now again in 2001. The impact doesn't diminish and I have held this book in highest esteem ever since. Certainly I think that it will always remain my favourite novel along with the two written by Wally Lamb in the late nineties.Sadly it has been the only novel that Gloria Keverne has ever written or published but hopefully she will write something again one day.I have recommended this to many people over the years and now I recommend it to the reader of this review.A supurb novel. Moving, beautiful and exciting. Conjures images of an Africa at war and a family at a crossroads.Thank you Gloria. You made this man with a cold heart cry.Marc

A Lasting Impression

Don't be to sure to underestimate the appeal to foreigners. I read this book ten years ago and it remains a benchmark for me when comparing other epic novels I've read. I loved the characters, the young doctor and nearly as young step-mother, the other missionaries, the young blind girl and the tribal chief. This book really grows as you read, and has a great ending, very emotional for any reader. I may be a bit biased as i grew up on a diet of Wilbur Smith novels, however if Wilburs' tomes are your favourite monday night sitcom then Gloria Keverne's A Man Cannot Cry is like going to the movies on Saturday night.

Best read in a long time!

Best plot and execution of a long story that I have read in along time. The characters are well built and become real. A few tears at the end of the book leave you with a lasting impression. I guess if one comes from Africa one can relate a bit closer than the average overseas person.
