A Maine Prodigy is the story of Skowhegan native Mary Elise Fellows White, compiled from her autobiography, diaries and other primary sources. Marked as a violin prodigy from an early age, Elise goes to Boston in 1883 to study at the New England Conservatory, then to Vienna for further study. She marries a mine owner and operator and settles in to nine years in a mine boomtown in British Columbia. She returns to Maine, raises two sons, and struggles financially through the Great Depression and beyond.
