A Love Of Archetype: A bilingual romance

In many ways, Marion and Francois resemble the archetypes of romance novels. They are aware of it and enjoy it, even if living in the workshop of a literary genre is sometimes difficult. Humor helps them not to pay (too much) attention to the gaze of others. There is no reason that learning a foreign language should be hard and boring. Just like there is no reason why entertainment shouldn't be educational. It is a bilingual, French / English book: a page in one language faces its translation in the other language. It is thus easy for the reader-language student to check his understanding of the text. The story is almost entirely linear and therefore easy to follow. But it is written in the past tense: the French part therefore uses the preterit / simple past pair. It was possible for me to use the preterit / present perfect tense pair instead, (the present perfect tense tends to replace the simple past tense in contemporary French), but the translation would no longer have been so precise, some values of the French present perfect tense not tracing the present perfect English, and vice versa.
