Star-crossed lovers get a second chance

A LOVE FORBIDDEN Alfred J. Garrotto Commonwealth, Feb,1997, Raul Montenegro is the President of the small Caribbean island of Santo Sangre. He has come under increasing scrutiny for his human rights violations from the Prisoners of Conscience International activist group. Raul orders Father Javier de Cordova, a Catholic priest in his country's mountains, to meet with the leaders of POCI. He wants the priest to convince them that he is improving his human rights record and that the country's upcoming elections are genuine. Father Javier agrees to meet with the POCI leaders in order to help his people. Javier is shocked to learn that one of the leaders of the American chapter is Leah Sinclair Barton, the woman who shattered his Godly bond. Over fourteen years ago he met Leah, who was helping the people in a Santo Sangre village and both fell in love. However, he had chosen God's path and sent her back to America where she eventually married and had two children. Now, she is a widow. When they meet for the first time since he reluctantly turned his back on her on Santo Sangre years ago, they realize the spark remains. However, Father Javier has a lot of personal problems to deal with, including his vows, before any relationship can be considered by them. Additionally, someone has followed the Father to Rome and Amsterdam and has killed children there. That killer may now be in San Francisco with Leah's two teens as the next intended target. Javier knows that he must save his beloved and her family before he can work on his (and perhaps her) future. Alfred J. Garrotto demonstrates a wide depth of talent with this incredibly brilliant romantic suspense. If the reader can afford only one romance novel this month, this reviewer strongly recommends that they take a chance on A LOVE FORBIDDEN, because it is that good. Harriet Klausner ----
