Michael Craig Sofleys' first bout with mental illness came at the age of 17. Rushed by ambulance from his family's home in the San Fernando Valley to USC's psychiatric hospital in downtown Los Angeles, he was given a shot of thorozine, restrained in a bed (which he soiled), and woke up in group therapy strapped to a chair. Over the next 30 years, Michael would document his bouts of mania and depression through poetry. This book represents the poems he wrote during his early years of struggle with bipolar disorder.
