A Long Hard Road: Dreams. Detours. What Matters.
How long can you put part of yourself aside before it starts asking to be heard?
A Long Hard Road tells Tom Sykes's story, but it isn't really about Tom Sykes.
It's about what happens to the things we once wanted for ourselves when life takes us places we never expected to go.
Tom wanted to write songs. But life didn't follow the plan. His road wound through a family he loved, a long career in the entertainment business, success and failure, missed opportunities, reinvention, and enough wrong turns to make him wonder more than once whether the part of himself he'd set aside still mattered.
It did. It just didn't turn out to mean quite what he thought it meant.
With humor, honesty, and a willingness to admit when he got things wrong, Tom looks back at what happens when something you wanted long ago refuses to disappear, even after an entire life has grown around it.
This isn't a story about becoming famous or finally proving everybody wrong.
It's about the parts of ourselves we sometimes put away because there are bills to pay, people to love, responsibilities to meet, and a life to live.
Do those parts disappear?
Do they change?
Or do they simply wait for us to listen again?
Funny, candid, and reflective, A Long Hard Road is for anyone whose life didn't turn out quite the way they expected and who has ever wondered what became of the person they once thought they might be.
Maybe the road didn't end.
Maybe it just went somewhere you weren't expecting.
