My 8 year old has been in pageants for two years now. They are not at all glitzy and sexy. She wears a fancy party dress, costing anywhere from $60.00 to $250.00 and she wears them until she outgrows them. I have told her time and again that if she does not want to compete, that fine with me. I do not push her what-so-ever (I get worn out getting her ready). There are no elaborate hairdo's or enormous amount of make-up, just a little blush and a touch of lipstick. She loves being on stage and it is great for her self-esteem. SHE gets upset with ME when I tell her she's not doing a talent competition. Our pageants are great......I see absolutely no abuse or fussing. Yes, the older girls get a little upset if they don't win...but just shed a few tears. As long as she wants to compete I will be behind her. I also stress taking the defeat with the victory. If she does not place, I tell her that's OK and praise her for the great job she did. I would love to see a book written on kiddie pageants. I difinetly would purchase it.
More revealing than any of the other books on JonBenet.

The first chapters seemed to confuse me at first until I realized that they were written to eliminate the other theories, except one. I found the beauty director's story capitivating and saw how vital her story was to the book's final conclusion. I agree with others, a more complete book on the beauty pag. world would be interesting.I've read the other books, this one came out too soon and seems to have fallen by the way side. The truth is as the story unfolds in Boulder I think this book will offer the only real conclusion. Could it be that it was based on good common sense? Yes, I think so. The author indicates that until the truth is known, if ever, every thing written is fictional!
Eleanor VonDuyke IS For real!

At first when i heard that she would be writing a book I was a bit sceptical. After reading the book I applaud Eleanor VonDuyke! Why...because I know that she is for real...Why? because I attended a pageant in Colorado Springs and SAW her hand over ALL of her pageant proceeds, ON STAGE, to the representative of the HEATHER DAWN CHURCH organization! Do we remember who HEATHER DAWN CHURCH was?? She was a 12 year old little girl that was missing, found later murdered! This money was used to help the search teams. How many other pageant directors out there have a REAL concern for children...not many...I know, because I have attended many pageants and all they are out for is for themselves! Sure, Eleanor has been downed for things she has done...put yourself in her position DEALING with stage mothers for twenty years..and the times this classy woman in sequins and rinestones looked up from her podium and saw her drunk husband at the door way...we all saw that too! There are so many people out there that she has helped .She has emptied out her cupboards for people she knew needed food for their children, she bought Christmas presents for children she knew weren't going to have a Christmas, when you see her hug a little girl or little boy you know its for REAL! I cannot believe she has sat back and taken the crap she has taken! She has never been given a chance to present her side til now...and my prayers are with her. Eleanor VonDuyke...keep that head high, that beautiful smile, and let the Peter Boyles of Colorado eat their heart out!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!
FINALLY...THE TRUTH IS OUT!!!

Had Jonbenet become the object of some murdering pervert's desire after he saw her in her show girl costumes? Did her sexy moves lead to her death? I can't help but think there is a connection after reading this book! Anyone who has ever been to a child's beauty pageant has seen how it works...the glitzier, the sexier the better..I know, because my daughter was a contestant for nine years!! We got out a few years ago because we couldn't afford the $2,000 dress any longer...I couldn't hide the mounting expenses from my husband any longer. I bleached my daughters hair until it could no longer take, I was one of the abusive mother's when she made a mistake...thank you to the pageant director for FINALLY telling the truth to the world. Parents, it really is happening out there! It needs to stop!
BEAUTY PAGEANT REVIEW RIGHT ON!!
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
The beauty pageant business has finally been exposed! A must read book before you decide to enter your child in a beauty pageant. A good book to read about the inside and outside of the real pageant story. My granddaughter was a past contestant...we saw it all too. Nobody would believe me. The author should write another book just on child beauty pageants. Telling her couragous story is left to tell that there is alot more to tell. I would definitely recommend this book to all future pageant seekers. The only real confussion I had was the JonBenet story line. The only real understanding was the last theory...a good one!!
