My Father's Shirt
Dorchester, Nebraska, was a town of 400 occupants, a large portion of whom were Czech. The Mariskas, Hrdvas, Walenchenskys, and Dzerks were my mom's patients and my 2nd grade classmates. In my group, the four different young ladies were two arrangements of cousins, and every one of them communicated in Czech at break. My siblings and I played alone in the schoolyard. That year we had a servant who dealt with Toni and prepared us cinnamon rolls and pie.
