Interesting read

This book has filled in a "gaping hole" in my mental outline of history. It paints a great picture of the political struggle of Britain and France. Yet it adds great dimension to the extremely personal struggle of the Acadian people themselves. For anyone exploring their Acadian history, this is a must read.

Best Overview of the Acadians

For the general reader who needs a good overview of the Acadian people, this is the book. It is well written and coherent, despite the many twists and turns taken by Acadian history. Acadia was a prize contested by France and Britain in many wars, declared and undeclared, in the 17th and 18th Centuries. The book is especially good at describing the British, Massachusetts and French internal political battles which ultimately led to the Acadian expulsion. These topics are often not very thoroughly covered in past histories of Acadia.Exhaustively researched and footnoted, with an excellent bibliography.
