Robert S. "Pete" Peterson's ("Papa" to his grandchildren) very personal story touches us with its intimacy. It is told in his untouched words as though the grandchildren and others for who it is written were sitting at his knee. This book brings his generation together with generations to come. His story reminds us all of the fact that today's octogenarians were young once and every bit as full of intense passion and spirit as the youth of today. Bob came out of the Great Depression generation looking for a future beyond the file rooms of the Prudential Insurance Company headquarters office (to which he may have otherwise resigned himself as a file clerk). The wings of his P-40 "Eileen" took him to heights of which he had dreamed after watching airshows from atop the hills in his native New Jersey. This is a tale of a lifelong volunteer who knew no other way and asked little or nothing in return. This is Papa's tale.
