A friend asked me to describe what kind of poetry I write. My answer: "You'll find my topics are eclectic. Word pictures, perhaps." There is an order of the poems in the book: a general poem followed by a poem for each season and ending with a poem about grief. For example, Gone Forever is a raw poem about the death of a spouse while Winter Serenity emotes the joy of physical love. Laurence Perrine in his poetry text book Sound and Sense writes this about poetry: "Poetry is the most condensed and concentrated form of literature, saying most in the fewest number of words." Condensed and concentrated are imperatives that make writing poetry challenging and which I take seriously. As you read the selections, don't look for deep meanings, for philosophical insights - just enjoy the poetry. I know that sometimes my work hints an idea or insight that I did not realize was in the piece. If you detect such an insight, consider the discovery a bonus. Enjoy
