A House in Trausse

An American couple rents a house for three weeks, sight unseen, in Trausse, a village amongst vineyards in the Languedoc region of southern France. Their ambitious plans to visit historical sites of medieval Occitania lead them to unforeseen adventures, from carousing in a local sports bar to getting lost in the wilds of the vast forested mountains of the Parc National du Haut Languedoc. In the Pays du Cathars they learn details of the brutal persecution of the first heretics by 12th century Catholic Crusaders. In the holy city of Lourdes they experience spiritual catharsis and skeptical wonder. After miles of driving through this relatively unexplored French province, they especially enjoy life in the village of Trausse, its annual cherry festival, its unique medieval history, and many characters who have lived there for generations who become their friends.
