A House in Bloomsbury is a novel by Margaret Oliphant, published in 1901. The story is set in London's Bloomsbury district and follows the lives of a group of middle-class characters. The main character is a woman named Gertrude, who moves into a house in Bloomsbury with her husband and children. Gertrude is a strong-willed and independent woman, but she struggles to find her place in the social hierarchy of her new neighborhood. She becomes friends with her neighbor, Mrs. Hillyard, who is a wealthy and influential woman in the community. Mrs. Hillyard takes Gertrude under her wing and introduces her to the other members of the neighborhood's elite. However, Gertrude soon realizes that the social world of Bloomsbury is full of secrets and hidden agendas. As she navigates this world, Gertrude must confront her own desires and ambitions, and decide what kind of life she wants to lead. A House in Bloomsbury is a compelling portrait of turn-of-the-century London society, and a powerful exploration of the complexities of human relationships. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
