In modern Japan, the number of suicides and suspicious deaths continues to rise, with Japan holding an overwhelmingly first place in the world in this regard. Moreover, in international surveys targeting Japanese youth, Japan ranks at the bottom in items such as "I can take pride in my country" or "I have someone I respect." Similarly, on items related to self-esteem, it ranks at the very bottom compared to other countries. Why has the situation come to this? Postwar Japan, in its pursuit of material abundance, has neglected spiritual richness. One major cause, I believe, is the imposition of a masochistic view of history, coupled with the failure to teach the myths that record the founding history of Japan. When people have no one among their ancestors to take pride in, or no one to respect, they develop a negative consciousness toward their own sense of existence. This is because if one cannot take pride in the roots from which they were born, they end up viewing themselves-the branches and leaves-as insignificant beings. To illustrate: If we liken the earth to the god who created this world, then the roots of the tree embedded in that earth are your ancestors, the trunk is your parents who gave birth to you, and the branches and leaves growing from that trunk are you yourself. In this case, if you resent or hate your parents-the trunk-then the nutrients from the earth will be blocked at that trunk and won't flow all the way to you, the branches and leaves. Likewise, if you cannot respect your ancestors and instead feel ashamed of them as war criminals, the nutrients absorbed by those ancestral roots from the earth will be severed midway, preventing them from reaching you, the branches and leaves. As a result, you become a person with low self-esteem, unable to find meaning in your own existence. Consequently, you-the branches and leaves-wither away and fall to the ground like dead leaves. So, how can we raise self-esteem? One method might be to receive counseling or mental health treatment. However, if you fundamentally cannot hold pride or respect for your ancestors-the roots of the tree-then you will gradually weaken mentally, continue to lack confidence in yourself, and ultimately wither away. Modern Japanese people have been completely contaminated by the masochistic view of history (Tokyo Trial historiography) through postwar peace education, and they still cannot escape its curse. I want as many people as possible to heal the spiritually impoverished and destitute hearts of such Japanese individuals, so that they can gain the courage to live, hope, and pride. Table I.
