Occasionally there comes to a few fortunate communities persons thoroughly dedicated to collecting and preserving stories of the past. Montezuma county in South-western Colorado is one of these few fortunate localities. It is even more fortunate than others in having a person of the caliber of Ira S. Freeman to record its history. Mr. Freeman is the only living representative of the pioneer newspapermen who helped settle this part of Colorado and who knew most of the early settlers personally. He has gone to great expense of time and money collecting and writing this history, and now having it published in permanent book form. Mr. Freeman has dwelt with authority on the history of his community from the early times of the cliff dwellers to the present time and even hazards a glimpse into the future. He has gathered an amazing amount of pictures of the old-timers which are reproduced as found, with no thought of retouching. He has done painstaking research and interviewed all of the living pioneers -some of whom have passed on since he started this work. This book will long be preserved and used as the standard history of early times in Montezuma County, and as such will be an invaluable work for all homes in this locality.
