The Word affirms that God wants us to ascend into the hill of the Lord, to experience levels of intimacy in Him. This requires a person to have clean hands, a purified heart, and a humbled soul. In order for one to experience this intimacy with God, that person must do a spiritual check-up. As a Christian, their check-up begins and ends in the heart. God has a particular way that we can check our own hearts. We must spy on our own self. A Heart Under Surveillance is a book illustrating particular scenarios that reveal certain impurities that can keep one from experiencing higher intimacy with God. These impurities are overlooked and thought to be normal. "Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Paths to dwell in" (Isaiah 58:12).
