A must for all interested in English entertainment history

I bought this in Sheffield while touring folk clubs in the U.K. I'd discovered that music hall was fresh in everyones' memories and considered a vital part of their cultural history in regards to all things musical. The book takes the phenomenon back to the earliest days of acts booked into upstairs rooms in pubs that are still used for similar purposes today (folk clubs). The earliest glamor stars of music hall come to life with photos, illustrations, posters and character studies. If you loved the movie MOULIN ROUGE this is also a must-read, with accounts of the origin of that illustrious French theatre and it's characters who are all-too-familiar to fans. This is a big, fun book with a serious look into many aspects of Western entertainment history dating back to the not-so-dark ages.
