A Federal Offense

Washington, D.C., September 2003

Millie Wells, a rather head strong young lady, innocently takes photographs of two Middle Eastern looking men, who menacingly begin to follow her when she leaves work. Managing to evade them, she arrives at her apartment, and barges in on her unsuspecting next-door neighbor, seeking his help. As it turns out, he is FBI Special Agent, Jim Marshall, who is having problems dealing with advancing age and retreating nerves. Jim becomes attracted by Millie's charms, and they manage to keep a love affair going over this fast-paced adventure.

Jim seeks the support of the FBI's Counter-Terrorism Division, as they uncover a possible terrorist plot to destroy this country's entire counter-terrorism intelligence gathering capability. Jim and Millie are caught in a real-life game of cat-and-mouse, with ensuing gun battles that leave dead bodies strewn from downtown Washington, D.C., to the woods of Fairfax County. As the end nears, Jim is confronted by a ghost from the past, and wonders if he hasn't waited too long to retire from the agency.

Exciting read that could be ripped from today's headlines

A Federal Offense is a great fast pace read that is what this country needs to open it's eyes to the possiblities of terrorism on any given day at any given time. It pulls no punches with the fact that our security forces are only human and have to deal with the day to day pressure of real life combined with the day to day pressure of fighting terrorism.I look forward to the next book.Good reading, great interpretation of what goes on with the FBI on a daily bases.

Suspenseful and fast moving!

Mr. Poole's first novel was thrilling, suspenseful and fast moving. The plot really grabs you and keeps your interest throughout the book. Mr. Poole's style of dialogue, however, could use a little polishing. Other than that, I found his first novel to be very enjoyable reading. I look forward to a sequel and to "Jim Marshall's" next adventure.

This book really moves!

The action in this book will keep you turning pages right up until the end. Written in the first person, this book gets you intimately involved with the protagonist early on.The main character, Jim Marshall, is very well drawn. He's crusty around the edges, taking anti-anxiety medication and having gunfights with terrorists! The writing is well done and the ending is absolutely spectacular! Very believable conclusion and the personal ending is both touching and humorous. Highly recommended! I'm looking forward to the sequel.
