A Dynamic Formal Organisational Ontology

The dynamic formal organisational ontology built and explained in this book addresses the representational problems involving occurrents such as: states, events and processes. This ontology was modelled using ontology engineering approach. The language of the representation was many sorted first order logic. A temporal framework based on Allen's interval logic and McDermott's logic of time points were used to capture the dynamic structure of the ontology while occurrents and their temporal properties were identified. Events and processes were represented as reified while states were represented using the method of temporal arguments. Predicates were used to represent the relationships between the terms. The novelty in this work is the elucidation of the relationships that exist between the processes and events in the domain which helps in the creation of new knowledge. The ontology can be used to train new employees about the operational knowledge of the organisation and can also serve as codes and standards for carrying out shared representation in the civil service thereby enhancing the unification of all the civil service in the country.
