Many of our ancestors left their homelands in large numbers and came to North America - Canada and the United States because they sought a better life than that which they were living. They sought the promise of freedom. Freedom of speech, religion, to gather, to bear arms to do with their lives as they wished to do. This is the stor0y of people who endured many hardships to come to North America, to come to the United States and Canada. They endured those hardships because they believed in the promise of America that people should have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as long as those rights did not trample on the same rights of others. Those rights, those inalienable rights, are not for governments to grant or withhold, because they are rights that are bestowed on humankind by a loving God. Most of our ancestors knew that their lives were going to be difficult in this new world of North America, but they were willing to suffer burdens beyond what most of us can imagine to pave the way for the liberties and opportunities that those who were to follow them would have an opportunity to enjoy. We owe our ancestors our willingness to help preserve the freedoms and liberties for which they sought to provide to us.
