Following yet another uninspiring day as an accountant, John longed for something more enriching in his life. One night, he decided to indulge his affinity for archeology right in his own backyard. After all, Massachusetts has an abundant history.

At first, his efforts turn up nothing more than tree roots; however, he soon unearths an artifact that connects his world with that of a culture nearly forgotten - a spearhead. Proud but exhausted, John went to bed, placing the spear beneath his pillow. With his slumber brought vivid apparitions, unveiling the unknown life of Nanepashemet, the Great Sachem, and the spear.

While Nanepashemet and his wife, Squaw Sachem, were once renowned leaders amongst the Native American tribes of Massachusetts, little of their culture, people, or history survived. Only echoes of their lives remain, reduced to facts without context.
