A Masterpiece

I read some of Chekhov's work years ago in a theater class, but hadn't yet read his short stories. Chekhov is a master, perhaps THE master of the short story, and this collection includes what many consider to be his best works. Chekhov introduces characters who are put into circumstances that tap into our primal, most intimate emotions and which evoke the eternal human experience as many of the great existentialists have done. Introduced by Tobias Wolff, another master story writer, and handpicked by him as well, this book delivers a literary experience that can't be missed. I would have bought this book for the introduction alone.
