This book, "A Different Gospel," Discovering 21st Century Christianity, is about a different understanding, to some extent, of Christianity as it is defined, understood, and practiced today by many. As I said on the back cover, different but not new, for its roots originate in such things as Christian mysticism, Christian contemplative spirituality and early church practices. Now why another book that's similar and on the same subject as the last one? There're three specific reasons; First, this is the result of the search discussed in the last book. Secondly, this is a re-edited version of the previous book, using the description "21st Century Christianity" instead of "Christian but Unaffiliated." Although, to be honest it really doesn't matter what one calls it, which will become clear again as one continues to read. And thirdly, not only has the previous book been re-edited, but also expanded with new chapters and subjects. Again, this book, as the last one was, is essentially to differentiate this understanding from what so many think Christianity has to be.This understanding of "21st Century Christianity" comes out of many years of struggling to redefine what I understood Christianity to be, as it had been taught to me for many years through traditional Christian messaging (seminary, church, etc.) I came to faith over forty-five years ago but along the line I found myself becoming more and more disillusioned with my faith, not a good thing for a pastor of many years. Christianity just didn't seem to be what I thought it was anymore. I wondered if I was losing my faith, but after some years of confusion, I found this wasn't the case at all. My problem wasn't with Christianity but my understanding of it. Thus, the quest of reconfiguring my faith began, resulting in what I call "21st Century Christianity."
