She's running from London's marriage mart. He's running out of time to save his estate. Neither intends to fall in love--but their hearts have other plans.
American heiress Calliope Hart is thrust into London's high society against her will, all because her mother is determined to marry her off to an aristocrat. Despite being named "the debutante of the season" back in New York, Calliope wants nothing more than to avoid becoming another pawn in the social game.
Edward Chase, the Earl of Hayward, is on the brink of financial ruin. To save his estate, he must marry, and Calliope Hart is his last hope. When he boldly declares his intentions, she swiftly rejects him, making it clear she has no interest in marrying for convenience. Undeterred, Edward offers a deal: He will escort Calliope to all the best sights of London that she's been dying to see if she agrees to visit his estate and consider what they could accomplish together.
What begins as a business arrangement soon sparks something much more complicated--an undeniable chemistry neither can ignore. But as their hearts begin to soften, both must confront their fears: Can Calliope trust Edward with her heart, and can Edward truly win her love when she's convinced he only wants her fortune?
"A delightful love story brimming with wit, humor, and heart "--Megan Walker, author of Lakeshire Park "This book captures the very essence of romance--where love, once found, becomes life's greatest reward."--Laura Beer, award-winning author of An Improbable Scheme
A no-spice, clean and wholesome historical romance with a delightful mix of witty banter and charming romance set in Edwardian England. Read if you like the marriage of convenience, enemies-to-lovers, and he-falls-first tropes, Bridgerton, Alexandra Vasti, Evie Dunmore, Sophie Irwin, and Martha Waters.
I am absolutely thrilled with Haven, a new imprint of Baker Publishing. This is my second book from Haven and both have been gold. This is also my introduction to Chelsea Bobulski and her writing; she has gained another fan with her perfectly timed, flawless writing style and her ability to bring her characters to life.
I loved being transported to 1908 New York, London, and Hampshire. The Gilded Age felt like anything was possible for the wealthy upper crust of American society, though the English aristocrats had the opposite problem of desperately trying to preserve their way of life. I loved the fond childhood memories Calliope held and the lovely friendships she had with the other American debutantes looking for titled English husbands. Calliope had spunk, mischief, and stubbornness that paired amazingly well with her physical beauty, loyalty, and compassion. Edward was a dashing hero who hid his passionate and empathetic spirit under a stiff upper lip and heart bound to duty. They started out as adversaries but developed a sweet and fun friendship through shared interests and then became more even as forces, within and out, tried to tear them apart.
I cannot wait to read the next book in the series about Rose and her possible (mis)match of an aristocrat.
I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Haven via Interviews & Reviews and NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
