Merry Martin lived with a verbally abusive father, and was relentlessly bullied at school by the best male athlete. Over the years, Merry's anger swelled. In Grade 12, she had enough and attempted to defy her father. His verbal abuse quickly turned physical, and her anger was quickly replaced by fear.
Merry's escape plan included using her tremendous tennis skills to obtain a university scholarship where she could break away and finally be free of him. Once accomplished, she would be able to turn her attention toward finding a meaningful, and loving, relationship.
At the start of her second year in university, Merry thought she had discovered love. Unfortunately, she was making the same mistakes as her mother. Finding herself caught in an intricate web, she was unsure how to respond. Pushed to the extreme, she desperately tried to find her way out of this terrible labyrinth and found help from an unlikely source. She was, however, in so deep, there were questions as to her ability to escape.
