"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Too often we want wisdom without fear, but that is impossible. If we miss the beginning, we cannot hope to achieve the end. And what is wisdom? It is obedience to the commandments of the Lord. "A wise man fears and departs from evil, but a fool rages and is self-confident (Prov 14:16)." These three things--wisdom, fear and obedience--are inseparable. And wisdom is in Christ Jesus "who became for us wisdom from God--and righteousness and sanctification and redemption--that, as it is written, 'He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.'" Whoever finds wisdom finds life and obtains favor from the LORD (Prov 8:35).
