The 101-year-old marathon runner. The 76-year-old mountain climber. The 87-year-old sushi chef. The 95-year-old college graduate. These are all just a few examples of older adults who continued to pursue their passions well into their golden years. Wesbury United Methodist Community is using a vibrant and creative arts program to tap into the passions and talents of its residents. The artistic abilities of those living in retirement communities are often overlooked and opportunities for older adults to be viewed as creators and gifted artists are few and far between. Residents of Wesbury have proven that the obstacles can be overcome for artists who are trying to recapture their passion or for those who have found their calling later in life.
The gallery of artwork in this collection is an amazing and beautiful tribute to the Wesbury residents and their artistic expression. Wesbury believes in an art-infused, abundant life for the residents who reside on campus and provides many opportunities for creative expression regardless of age through formal and informal activities. One incredible artwork at a time, the collections in this book are changing stereotypes about aging and attitudes about the artistic abilities of seniors in retirement communities.
Proceeds from the sales of this book will support Wesbury's Benevolent Care Fund. Wesbury's Benevolent Care Fund supports those residents who have outlived their financial resources ensuring that they will always be cared for and will always have a place to call home.
