A Cowgirl's Life In The Mountains

By Lauralee Northcott

Cowgirl's Creed
Courage doesn't develop when things are going well.
Instead, it creeps up your backbone fed by the springs of fear.

So begins A Cowgirl's Life in the Mountains, where colorful, authentic characters-including the author herself-reveal their stories as they navigate rugged terrain and negotiate the temperaments of fellow travelers.

In her debut book, Lauralee Northcott braids together stories, songs, poems, menus and recipes from her 30-plus years as a horseback guide and cook in Washington's Pasayten and Lake Chelan-Sawtooth wilderness areas. Lauralee captures human (and animal) behavior humorously and thoughtfully, recounting evenings where her cook tent and the campfire became the space for sharing hearty dinners, reflecting on the day, getting better acquainted, and enjoying cowboy music. Focused and engaging, her experiences as an entertainer and a mountain horseman shine through.

Perfect for anyone who loves the mountains, horses and the wilderness, A Cowgirl's Life in the Mountains will teach readers practical wilderness tips, as well as the art of Dutch oven cooking and how to set up their own backyard "campfire"-a space to share a meal and a story, and the magic of the outdoors. So saddle up and grab a big slice of hard-won, horseman knowledge, served up in some kickass prose and sweet poetry ...
