A Coward Writes of Death: And Other Short Stories

Hello, my dearest reader. It seems I have peeked your interest. Was it fate that brought you to my world, or malignant forces of the unknown kind? Either way, as you read these words, I'm eternally grateful for this opportunity the universe has created for us both. How lucky of me, to have your thoughtful eyes scanning to discern for a posible interest in my stories. I must humbly warn you though, that these are not tales of the lighter side of life. Instead, they carry the burden of an overlooked part in the contract of life. I do apologize for the brevity of each one, but then again, it's better to get used to such ailments of existence. As you will notice, each story is headed by a poem. For your wellbeing, it is best you read this one first, and get a taste of what I have to offer:

A Brief Introduction
To whom it may concern,
or perhaps to whom might pick up these brief stories,
I humbly share what's inside my head,
or perhaps what has been,
or perhaps what will be.

As an emphatic gesture
for the reader's sake,
it is with great sorrow that I shake
the trickster vesture
of a fact long forgotten:

Death is not a virtuous planner.
It cares not for ambitions, plots, or dreams.
Birthdays, weddings, anniversaries - it knows no such things.

When the clock strikes fifteen past your expiration date,
it slithers down your throat,
scales up your limb,
punctures through your chest.

A fatal drink,
a vengeful creature,
or a piercing blade,
are all supplied in the most unfortunate of times.

So if you find yourself in a bash,
or in such an awful spot,
remember, my dear friend,

Death cares not.
