This is a previously-unpublished manuscript by Clyde Lyon (1913-1999) of Stewart County, Tennessee, author of A Country Boy from Owl Hollow. Whereas Owl Hollow deals with the years of Clyde's youth, A Country Boy Goes to Town covers Clyde's high school years and just beyond, from 1929-1934 in Dover, the county seat of Stewart County. Clyde reminisces about his family's move to Dover, his many neighbors, employers and friends, and his classmates at Dover High School. He also includes a detailed account of his automobile adventure to the 1933 Chicago World's Fair. Clyde was a boxer, debater, spit ball thrower, Latin scholar (for a month), blindfold trickster, brassiere salesman, grocery clerk and sign painter. If you enjoyed his humor in Owl Hollow, you'll enjoy its sequel, A Country Boy Goes to Town.
