Offers guidance to teachers encouraging their students to become more effective thinkers. A review of the literature on the subject is followed by coverage of the Spiral Model, on ways of envisioning the different factors involved in thinking, and of the Hilda Taba Teaching Strategies.
I found this while seeking information about teaching strategies. It is a distillation of research on strategies for teaching "thinking", and introduces a spiral model to link concepts together. Part 1 introduces the model, ties developmental processes and 'enabling skills' together with levels of maturity, to a transformation and application process to achieve complex thinking strategies that adults need for critical thinking and other tasks. Part 2 suggests ways to use the model in the school setting. One unexpected bonus of the book is Part 3, a copy of Hilda Taba's teaching strategies documents from the early 1970s. These are nearly impossible to find today. Part 3 alone has been helpful in increasing my knowledge of some references in some futures studies papers I have been reading.
