Excellent Reference Manual + Entertaining

This book was helpful if you are just learning about Chukar hunting, or if you already have experienced the joys and horrors of Chukar hunting. I was given this gift by a friend who thinks I'm nuts in my pursuit of Aves Galliformes Phasianidae Alectoris Chukar. If you are already hooked on Chukar Hunting, I do feel sorry for you, and I feel your pain (Literally, I just returned from the Deschutes River Valley - 6 misses, 1 fall, 1 dinged shotgun, 1 very swollen ankle, many, many chukars seen laughing at me...) Pat Wray has a good sense of humor, which can be invaluable in tough times. He also gives a lot of good advice about the equipment (Animal and Material) you will need if you wish to tackle the most difficult upland bird in North America. I've re-read this book twice, because the tips for successful hunting are so perfect, and need to be committed to memory.

Chukar hunting primer

I found Wray's writing very colorful. His grasp of the english language is strong and vibrant in a Hemmingway sort of way. I am a Chukar hunter of 7 years and I found his stories of hunting chukars similar to many of my own. I personally know some of the people he mentions in the book and I don't agree with thier philosophies but, I never felt attacked for mine. It is a good read for anyone that has any upland hunting just for the memories we all have.

Good read, good information, good book.

If you are looking for a book on chukar hunting that is informative as well as an enjoyable read, Pat Wray's book is it. While I am all for an individuals right to own and practice whatever the law allows, I am also in favor of an individuals right to their opinion. The act of someone useing this forum as a vindictive tool to voice their anger over another persons differing opinion is a testament to their character.

In Praise of good writing

I thank Wray for his wonderful book; for good practical chukar advice, and the words that helped draw me back to hunting.

Informative and enjoyable

I had already done quite a bit of chukar hunting when I first encountered this book, but I still learned a great deal from it, and was enormously entertained in the process. I can't believe I'm the first person to review this book. It's well worth the purchase price.
