A Family Movie worth watching at Christmas

This is a great family movie to watch together. It is a series of mishaps related to the season of Christmas that happen to a family from a pack of dogs tearing apart a turkey, a pair of glasses being shot out by a bb gun, a questionable display of furniture and the terrible gifts we sometimes get as just a few examples of the things that can and do happen at Christmas.

A seasonal Christmas classic

This is a collection of tales as they are recollected by a person thinking back on their childhood, one Christmas. It has all the exaggerations with its difficulties. Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) spots a “Daisy Brand Red-Ryder BB” 200-shot Carbine with a compass, in the window of a story and fantasizes on how to get it for Christmas. Will he succeed? And if so, will he shoot his eye out? I had one of those Davy Crockett hats when I was a kid. There were lots of other items and actions to which I could relate. However, my wife likes the watering method used by Melinda Dillon (mother) around the trophy. And she likes the way the mother conserved electricity by turning it off. I could see her snickering through the corner of my eye. I am not sure I should have bought this movie. It may prove fatal to any window plan. The sequel of “A Christmas Story”, “It Runs in the Family” (1994), lacks a lot of the originality of “A Christmas Story”.

Hooooo hooooo hooooooo!!

Seen it hundreds of times, will see it hundreds of times more. Any purist/traditionalist watches this during the 24 hour TBS marathon on Christmas Day though. Some of the best acting from children in cinematic history. This masterpiece of Americana belongs in the Smithsonian. Ralphie for President. Randy for Secretary of the Interior. And God bless the furnace fighters!
