No one ever arrived at a destination without first experiencing a journey, and no journey ever started without a thought. None of it could ever become a reality without making a commitment to the journey, and commitments are only entered into by choice. For every journey taken, there were reference points along the way marking its progression. I once had a thought about a destination requiring me to make a commitment. The journey began on a hazy, hot summer day in June 1985, and I arrived at my destination on a cold, blustery winter evening in January 1986. My destination was death by suicide from the end of a rifle. After arriving at the intended place, I understood I had lost my way in life and taken a journey I wish I had never started. With only a few minutes to decide the fate of my life, I decided to turn my life towards a new destination. I decided I didn't want to die after pulling the trigger, and I wanted to live. I made the commitment necessary to begin my new journey in hopes it would deliver my life. For every journey taken, there are reference points marking its progression. I made that commitment for life over twenty-five years ago and passed reference points along the way. If you have found my story and are headed towards the destination I once committed to, please consider it's never too late to turn around. Take a moment and pause from your journey and consider these five reference points I encountered along my way from suicide to life
