I was a good freind of Norman Best towards the end of his life and I do hope that his message is carried on through this historic book. While he may not have realized it when he wrote it, this book documents the transition from an artisan work force to a mechanized workforce and contains many clues as to how we slipped down this road and found our selves so spiritually empty in our work in modern times. It is told first hand through his own experience as a road builder in the North West during the WPA days. Norm took great pride in this hard work but sadly, watched as the contracting system took over and forced project to be done quick and cheap, depriving the workers of the fullfillment of a job well done. I have important unfinished documents in my possesion that I could share if anyone gets excited about the pivotal role Norman Best occupies in our History. He worked tirelessly to the end of his long life trying to turn this country in to a more democratic and fair system. A Celebration of work is a masterpiece and I do hope it lives on to inspire others as it inspired me. Kelly Mulhollan still@stillonthehill.com
