The Sisters' works, the personalities involved, and misunderstandings of the newness of their institute at a time of lay unrest with clerical authority, make this story of one aspect of the early Sydney church. Implicitly it suggests that some clerical attitudes from those times fostered the clericalism partly to blame for today's scandals.
