Editor - Reading this book has given a vision of Jake Wren (Patrick J. Wren): farmer, teacher, husband, brother, father, grandfather - and man of God. To augment this vision, an event involving Jake is now described by an eye witness. This event was one of the Wren family cousin's reunions, held in Three Rivers IDAHO. This place has been a favorite spot for the reunions and is close to where a large number of Wrens live, with lots of recreation for the younger kids.I vividly recall a family gathering in the central meeting room there, where we were gathered to witness Mass being administered by Jake's son, Father Bruce. In front was Jake, standing straight and true, his bald head bowed, his eyes closed, his hands folded in prayer. As Jake knelt and took communion from his son, I saw a flash of intense emotion on Father Bruce's face. I don't know if it was the passion of the Eucharist or the sight of his father kneeling in front of him. But no truer picture have I ever seen of true faith --- Jake giving witness of his deepest belief in God to his children, grandchildren, aunt, siblings, and cousins. Lest anyone doubt the miracle of the transubstantiation of the Eucharist, no artifice of science can ever prove that it is not the body and blood of Christ: our faith tells us it is so..That Mass was the culmination of what our reunion was all about and gave final testimony to who Jake Wren truly is. His standing in front of our family congregation in the humility of prayer without pretense or artifice speaks of his true nature. We thank you Jake for your faith, and for being a rock (along with your wife Marianne, the rocket!) upon which the foundation of our family rests. Amen.
