A Butterfly's Journey

Come along on an exhilarating journey with a young and very curious blue morpho butterfly. His journey begins when he leaves the safety of the canopy and finds himself looking for food.

He will try new things, face unknown challenges, and learn just how brave he can be. Where will this journey take him?

Facts About the Blue Morpho

The blue morpho is a striking butterfly with blue wings edged in black and a wingspan around 5 to 8 inches. Males have broader, brighter wings than females.

Their vibrant, iridescent blue color is a result of microscopic scales on the backs of their wings that reflect light. The underside of their wings is brown with eyespots for camouflage.

They are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America and Mexico and cannot survive in dry conditions.

They spend most of their time on the forest floor and in low trees and shrubs with their wings folded for security.

They use a long, protruding mouthpart called a proboscis as a drinking straw to sip mud, tree sap, rotten fruit, and salt water.

The blue morpho's lifespan is only 115 days.
