Life for brothers, Eddie and Sid Bennett in their crowded Ninth Street tenement house in New York's 1950s, seemed dismal and bleak. Not only did they have to deal with an alcoholic, unemployed, bigoted father, but with the prejudices of living in a poor neighborhood where not only the city but nature seemed to abhor them. Even when Lady Luck smiled on them and they found jobs and able to buy fashionable clothes and a hot rod, they are still shunned and laughed at by the well-to-do hep cats at school. When one is shot, revenge becomes a mighty master and leads to a nasty conclusion.
