A Brooklyn Story navigates you thru a slice in time in the life of a young New Yorker named Derrick. He has recently graduated from high school and has to make some important decisions that will affect his young life. He tries to navigate thru obstacles with help from his family which include his mother, father and little brother Jamal. He also has a love for film and wants to go to film school. His uncle who works at NYU tries to implore him to live up to his full potential and stop coasting thru life and doing dumb shit with his friends . Along his journey he meets Tonya. A young woman who knows what she wants out of life and is walking the path to get there. They both fall hard for each other and look forward to getting their adult life started. Will life let Derrick begin his new life? O r will it stop him before it begins like so many other young black males. Derrick is our avatar into 90's New York. Will he be able to follow his dreams and his heart to live better life. Or will mistakes and his friend e his downfall. This story is universal with its portrayal of possible real world decisions that some young African-American males must make to improve their situations. This will conjure up memories for native born New Yorkers who grew up during this particular time.
