This is not your everyday WWII novel, and if you're seeking a Pam Jenoff/Jennifer Robson sort of read, this may not be for you. If the paranormal is not something you want to read about, then move on to another of Meissner's books or to another author if you prefer. Since no one has been writing reviews on this, it is hard to determine why it has only 3.5 stars. It is a 4-star book (perhaps 4.5) so I can only guess that is is some sort of disappointment in readers who were not expecting the modern day element to take up so much of the story, and/or readers who (like me) do not believe in or have interest about the paranormal. Since the paranormal is not something you would expect in a WWII novel, they may have felt it did not meet their standard beyond the rating. However, I assure you that the book is well written and is an enjoyable read that does not waste time you wish you could have back. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
