A Bride for the Sheriff: A Clean Mail Order Bride Western Romance (Brides of Cedar Bend Book 2)

By Leah Hostetler

Cora Ellery answered the neatest advertisement she had ever read. It was written by two people in Cedar Bend who had never asked the man whose name was at the bottom of it.

She taught at a school in Massachusetts for ten years and boarded there, and a friend put the paper in her hand in September as a joke. She did not treat it as one. She wrote three times, in good faith, and was answered.

So she gave up her post, sold up, and came two thousand miles. She got off at the depot at Cedar Bend with her boxes on the boards behind her, and there was nobody on the platform, because the man she had come to marry had never been told what train - or, as it turns out, anything at all.

Jim Marsh is the sheriff. He knows the law the way other men know a road home, and he does not know himself nearly as well. He is also the only person in that town who was not in on it.

The stationmaster and the widow who keeps the boarding house are not sorry. They have watched him for three years and they think they have done a good thing. Cora has spent her whole life believing that being chosen is the proof - and now she has been chosen by a town, by a committee, by everyone except the one man it was supposed to be.

A clean, closed-door mail-order bride western about an advertisement nobody asked for, a town that meant well, and a woman who has to work out the difference between being chosen and being decided about. Faith, honesty and a hard-won happy ending.
