Whatever misgivings i might have about publishing this collection of sermons, my lovely, loving wife encouraged me to prepare these texts--events, even--for publication, and I bow to her sensibility and sensitivity in this endeavor. She only ever heard me preach once, when in July 2008 I was invited to participate in the Distinguished Preachers of America series at New York City's prestigious Marble Collegiate Church. It was her first and only time to hear me preach, and it proved to be my last opportunity to do so prior to a life-changing illness.

Included herein are seventy sermons from a thirty-two-year career as pastor, teaching elder, and scholar. May these sermons continue to provoke, instill thoughtfulness, and sustain you during your own life journey. Consider them a very present gift.
