The novel, A Beckoning Silence, presents a fast-paced story of international intrigue, involving a young woman who travels to Nepal to do missionary work. The author, Jim Brewster, treats each character with terrific tenderness in regard to the motives and dynamics of his or her relationships. At the end of the book, I didn't want to part from this warm group of friends I had come to admire and empathize with so much. Since this was the first book I had read by this gifted author, I quickly began reading another remarkable book by him, The Silk Road Affair.
