Stretch Your Budget

99 Ways to Stretch Your Home Budget by Cheri Gillard is a handy book to have! Just as the title suggest, Cheri lists 99 money stretching ideas. Idea #1 is as simple as meal planning. Each idea comes with a paragraph or two of explanation ending with how much money could be saved per week and/or per year. I must say though, that I didn't come across any ideas that were "aha" ideas for me...pretty much your standard budget stretching ideas. However, I plan on checking back with the book from time to time just as a reminder and to make sure that I'm keeping my budget in check! Practical Ideas

Cheri Gillard introduces the reader to many great money saving tips. In fact, she has listed 99 ways to stretch your home budget and with today's economy this book is timely for all. Like many of you, I was familiar with most of the tips shared in the book. I'm sure many folks have implemented these ideas during the depression and I continue to incorporate many of these frugal ideas in my lifestyle. So overall, I think this is a great book for every young housewife, single parent and college student who wants to make ends meet. You will be encouraged and inspired to be more creative in your plans and every day to day approaches in fulfilling your many needs. The summaries after each chapter are very informative and you can finish the book in one sitting. You'll learn about homemade cleaning products, flow control valves, online pharmacies plus incorporating fun activities of visiting state parks, playing board games and shopping at second hand stores and garage sales. **** stars. It's a good book on survival with tips on how to live within your means! I look forward to reading more from the author.

Very practical; very helpful

A very timely and very helpful little book. Weighing in at just 105 pages, you'll find this a handy guide to draw upon quite frequently without necessarily having to read it cover to cover. Gillard breaks budgeting down into easy to define categories: food, fashion, housing, and more. Under each category, she uses common sense and wisdom to recommend ways you can save money in your own budgeting. Most of the numbered recommendations also give a ballpark figure for you can save (depending on your area of the country) each month by following these suggestions. Very helpful and great motivation. This may seem like a short review, but this book is just so practical I don't need to say too much more - I'll budget my words and save you some time. Order this book and make it your New Year's Resolution to start saving money.

Stretching your money....

Cheri Gillard addresses the dreaded budget. None of us like the term but life is a lot easier if we have one. A budget is an invaluable financial tool. Gillard offers suggestions for making our money go farther. She begins by addressing our pantry. Water is healthier and cheaper than soft drinks. Buying in bulk can save on food bills. Plan your menus in advance and make a shopping list. The clothing chapter has great ideas for looking great on a budget. Never buy a new car. Attempt to run all errands in the same trip. Ride a bike. Clean your own house. Bake your own cookies. These are just a few of the wide range of ideas in this tiny book. Most of Gillard's ideas are common sense and you will wonder why you didn't think of it yourself.
