A missed call is, metaphorically, a lost opportunity to engage with someone or to learn something, either purposefully or accidentally. These poems try to describe the emotions (disappointment, doubt, despair, dread, etc.) that such a lost opportunity often causes. Of course, missed calls happen both ways.
