Cyclodextrins (β-CDs) are D-glucose macrocycles that resemble hollow, truncated cones and can be produced inexpensively from side to side enzymatic starch stop working. The three principal types of cyclodextrins are β-CD (diameter of cavity: 0.57 nm), β-CD (diameter of cavity: 0.78 nm), and β-CD (diameter of cavity: 0.95 nm), which contain 6-8 glucose molecules, in that order. Due to their cup-like shape and hydrophobic interior cavity, β-CDhave a remarkable ability to create host-guest complexes with hundreds of chemical molecules.
