June 6, 1944: At 12:19, midnight, 45 C-47s took off from the Royal Air Force Airfield in Fulbeck, England. Serial 26, Mission Boston, Operation Overlord was underway. The 442nd Troop Carrier Group carried over 700 paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne's 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment toward Drop Zone T Sainte-Mère-Église, France.
This book documents the World War II heroes of the last 9 airplanes in Serial 26. My family relation, Private Charles H. Coates, is among those 82nd Airborne paratroopers who risked their lives on D-Day.
