Following the defense of St. Vith, Belgium, in the Battle of the Bulge, 7th Armored Division Generals Robert W. Hasbrouck and Bruce C. Clarke received high honors and recognition. In 1947, they sought to recognize all of those who had served under them in the battle by recommending the Presidential Unit Citation for the Division and attached units.
