The diary opens at Durham on 5 August 1914. 1914 is spent at Low Fell, Sunderland, Durham, Newcastle and Ravensworth. 1915 is the most travelled year, 54 places against 15 in the next busiest, and is spent at Armentieres, Houplines, Ypres, Neuve Eglise and Pont De Nieppe. 1916 at La Clytte, Albert, Ecke, Frechencourt and Nr La Clytte. 1917 at Behencourt, Fricourt and Longueval. It closes at Fricourt on 31 January 1917. Armentieres is where it spent longest, 126 days across eight separate stays, it came back to Ypres ten separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 109 days at Low Fell. In 1915 it is also recorded at NW Castle on Tyne, Southampton, Havre, Hazebrouck, Rouge Croix, Beethen, Berthen, Rattekot Imn, St Laurent and Le Temple. In 1916 it is also recorded at Steenvoorde, Dranoutre, Le Meillard, Behencourt, Moulliens Au Bois, Montauban and Flers.
